物理的な場所や境界、あるいは時間的な限界や特定の範囲を「〜の向こうに」「〜を超えて」といった意味で示します。能力や理解、期待などの抽象的な範囲を超える状態も表現できます。

• The small village lies beyond the mountains. — その小さな村は山の向こうにある。
• The cost of repairs was beyond our budget. — 修理費は私たちの予算を超えていた。
• This problem is beyond my understanding. — この問題は私の理解を超えている。

空間的に「さらに遠くへ」「向こうへ」といった方向や位置を示したり、程度や範囲が「それ以上」「さらに」といった、現在の限界を超えた状態を表します。

• They hiked for hours, and then walked beyond into the wilderness. — 彼らは何時間もハイキングし、さらに奥地の荒野へと進んだ。
