(In some contexts, 'tú' conveys familiarity and intimacy that doesn't have a direct equivalent in English.)
The singular second-person subject pronoun in Spanish, equivalent to English "you". Unlike the single "you" in modern English, Spanish distinguishes between informal and formal address. "Tú" is used to address a single person with whom one has a familiar relationship, such as friends, family members, children, or peers. It conveys a sense of intimacy and informality that does not have a direct equivalent in standard English, which uses "you" for both formal and informal singular address. Its counterpart for formal address is "usted".
